Unilever has published its Annual Report & Accounts and Sustainable Development Overview for 2009. Read on to get the latest facts, figures and sustainability achievements from the business.

Ever wanted to know which brands contribute the most to Unilever’s growth or what the company’s annual turnover is? How much the business invests in R&D or exactly how Unilever is progressing with its public commitments to sustainable palm oil or tea?

All these answers and more can be found in Unilever's 2009 Annual Report & Accounts and the Sustainable Development Overview and Report, which have just been published and are now available both in print and online.

Annual Report & Accounts

With all the latest facts and figures, the report provides a snapshot of the business, brands and performance. Financial, social and environmental performance are all highlighted, the two latter sections providing an insight into some of the information covered by the Sustainable Development Overview.

The report also provides the full annual accounts and other statutory and compliance sections such as corporate governance, the directors’ remuneration report and information for shareholders. The online version offers the reader the same information layered in an easy-to-navigate website.

Last year there were four separate documents: Annual Report & Accounts, Annual Review, Summary Financial Statement and Form 20-F (a legal document to comply with US regulations). This year, there is just the full report and Form 20-F. There are no longer separate documents in Dutch.

Sustainable Development Overview and Report: Creating a better future every day

The Overview and online Report underline the importance of sustainability to Unilever in achieving its new vision to double the size of the business while reducing its environmental impacts.

As CEO Paul Polman says in his introduction: "This commitment presents Unilever with a major challenge. It incorporates all our impacts right across the value chain – from the sourcing of our raw materials through to consumer use and disposal of our products."

Consumers play an important role in helping Unilever to achieve this vision. The Overview highlights the thinking behind the Unilever brand – showing how consumers’ brand choices and small, everyday actions, when added together, can make a big difference for the planet.

The Overview is available in print or online as a pdf document. The sustainability section of  this website contains the online Report which gives more detail and covers additional topics such as employees, suppliers and customers.
